What is the QUEENSLAND HISTORIC MOTORING COUNCIL?

The Queensland Historic Motoring Council (QHMC), commonly known as The Historic Motoring Council, is the peak representative body for Veteran, Vintage & Historic Vehicle Clubs in Queensland and represents those Clubs in negotiations with Government departments, interstate peak motoring bodies and commercial and public bodies. Affiliated Clubs cover all types of motor vehicles built from the 1880 to the 1980. Over 10,000 vehicles are represented by the over 100 affiliated clubs.

What are the Objectives of the Historic Motoring Council?

·       To foster interest in the history and preservation of "old" vehicles, as owned by members of affiliated clubs;

·       To ensure that members of affiliated clubs can enjoy driving and using their historic vehicles

·       To act on behalf of clubs and/or individual members in negotiations with Federal, State or Local Government, Authorities, Companies, Corporations, or individuals, on matters of interest to the hobby;

·       To keep an up to date list of projected rally dates, in order to assist the clubs to avoid clashing dates, and to attempt to ensure maximum support of all major events by whatever means may be suitable, through the promotion of maximum co-operation between affiliated clubs;

·       To act a liaison body between the hobby and the general public;

·       To co-operate and liaise with any other similar State or Federal organisations;

·       To publish and circulate any information concerning or affecting the development of clubs ,within Queensland ,which the Association  considers will promote the objects of affiliated clubs.

·       To affiliated clubs informed issues affecting clubs or members use of vehicles.

Why should my club affiliate with the QHMC

The QHMC has arranged low cost effective Publicity Liability Insurance for affiliated clubs. The QHMC give your club a voice that is listened to by State and Federal government departments. The QHMC protects your rights to use and enjoy historic or older vehicles.

What is the Historic Motoring Council's relationship with Queensland Transport?

Historic Motoring Council has an elected Liaison Officer who meets regularly with Transport Department officials to discuss such issues as Concessional Registration, traffic infringements by Club vehicles, safety issues and matters of mutual interest. Clubs and members are encouraged to involve the Liaison Officer in all approaches to the Transport Department on matters of concern.

What is Concessional Registration?

The Queensland Government offers Concessional Registration to a number of groups including pensioners and charities but the Historic Motoring Council is concerned only with Concessional Registration of historic vehicles - Special Interest Vehicles under the SIV Scheme. Through the efforts of the Historic Motoring Council a set of rules have been negotiated whereby vehicle over thirty years old pay a lower registration fee than normally registered vehicles.

However there are restrictions on the use of concessionally registered vehicles.

How much does it cost to affiliate?

Affiliation fees are nominal and are calculated according to the number of members in the club seeking affiliation.

How does the Historic Motoring Council operate?

The historic Motoring council is run for and by its affiliated clubs. Each affiliated club can send two delegates the the general meeting and it is the delegates that decide actions the council takes. The Historic Motoring Council meets every 2nd month (Odd Months) on the fourth Thursday at the Veteran Car Club Rooms 1376 Old Cleveland Road, Carindale, 4152. at 7.30pm. An elected Executive QHMC Management committee meets on the even months. At the general meetings the Management committee
